Slow Beginnings

Three years into her nursing career, Mary felt a deep pull to change course. Though she loved healthcare, nursing wasn’t the fit she’d hoped for. She wanted more than quick check-ins and endless paperwork. She craved the chance to connect one-on-one, to offer personalized support to those in pain. Mary realized she needed to pursue a new path that would allow her to provide this level of care.

Looking back now, Mary says that if a health science degree had been available, she would have jumped at the chance. But with limited options, she turned to massage therapy, seeing it as a hands-on way to help people manage pain and improve their overall health.

Her journey began at a wellness center for cancer survivors, which offered a wide range of supportive services, from Tai Chi classes and group meals to massage therapy and more. The center provided a nurturing environment focused on helping survivors on their healing journey. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before the center shut its doors, and Mary found herself searching for a new path once again.

She took a position at a hospital, where she provided postpartum massage and taught infant massage to new mothers. However, the hospital eventually shut down as well, disrupting her career path once more.

With no clinic to work in but plenty of passion for helping others, Mary began seeing clients in her own home, converting her dining room into a cozy treatment room. With three young children, her client list started small, allowing her to balance her family’s needs. As her children grew and needed her less, Mary was able to dedicate more time to her practice, which steadily grew.

“I’ve always been a firm believer that you’ll receive, at the right time, what you need to receive."

And just as she predicted, as her availability increased, clients found their way to her—all without a single ad.

Committing To Excellence

Over the years, Mary has dedicated herself to continuous learning, expanding her skills to better serve her clients’ unique needs. She became LLCC certified to treat lymphedema, allowing her to work more effectively with cancer patients—a group she’s been committed to helping throughout her career. Her overarching goal has always been to support her clients in navigating their health and managing pain with compassion and expertise.

Mary’s toolkit has steadily grown to include advanced techniques like craniosacral therapy, musculoskeletal alignment, pain-neutralizing techniques, and microcurrent point stimulation. Her philosophy is simple: if a client needs help that requires a new skill, she’ll learn it. This dedication has not only broadened her expertise but has also made her a trusted resource for clients who feel overlooked by traditional medical care.

“Doing this for as long as I have, I’ve seen so many people fall through the cracks with medical care, and they just want to be heard.”

By 2015, her business had outgrown her home setup. She was seeing so many clients that it became clear she needed a dedicated office space. In 2018, she moved her practice into an office, and her client base continued to grow.

At one point, Mary was seeing over 100 clients each month. Then, a local hospital opened a holistic care center—a rare offering in the U.S.—and Mary jumped at the chance to be part of it. Today, she splits her time between this community-oriented work and her private practice.

With a fully booked schedule and steady demand, Mary’s career has grown to a point where she’s able to make a meaningful impact on countless lives. While she plans to keep working for at least another decade, she’s still welcoming new clients—though they may have to wait a few months for an appointment.

Embracing Convenience

For most of her career, Mary kept things simple, relying on paper notes and manual processes for client records and scheduling. Software wasn’t really her thing—she was comfortable with pen and paper and the routines she’d followed for years. But when the Covid pandemic hit in 2020, she realized she’d need a new approach to keep her clients and herself safe.

Mary began looking into software options, hoping to find something that could support the new health protocols required for her practice. ClinicSense stood out to her because of its Covid screening tools, which she knew would be essential for safely reopening. As she explored further, she found other features that could simplify her daily tasks.

With ClinicSense, Mary can send digital intake forms and clients now receive invoices and receipts automatically. For someone used to handling each step manually, the change was impactful. ClinicSense became her go-to tool for organizing her practice, saving her valuable time and helping her stay on top of administrative tasks.

ClinicSense offers Mary a streamlined way to manage her practice without compromising the personal touch her clients value. In a time filled with challenges, it provides her with the tools to keep her business running smoothly, allowing her to focus on what she does best: being present for her clients.
